Despite concerns, testing still has drivers’ support

Jeff Gordon has been tested three times this season under NASCAR’s random drug-testing policy, which went into effect at the beginning of the year. Whenever he gets sick and has to take cold tablets or an antibiotic, he makes sure the medications come from a list he’s already sent to NASCAR. If he has to take something not on that list, he forwards the information to the sanctioning body. Gordon feels there’s no doubt that NASCAR knows everything in his system well before he’s ever selected to take a test.

Sports car driver Lally to attempt qualifying at Glen

Veteran sports car driver Andy Lally will attempt to qualify for the Sprint Cup Series race at at Watkins Glen on Aug. 9. He will drive a second car for TRG Motorsports, which also fields the car for David Gilliland.

7/30 :: Fisher horses around on farm

Sarah Fisher had the opportuntiy to learn about another type of racing with 1978 Triple Crown-winning jockey Steve Cauthen, who gave the IndyCar Series team owner/driver a tour of his horse farm.

They traded stories and learned they had more in common than a just a need to go fast. Both began their careers at age 5; Fisher behind the wheel, and Cauthen on a horse. Both became entrepreneurs in their respective industries, and now their involvement in their sports extends beyond just participating as an athlete.

Cauthen owns Dreamfield Farm, a breeding and training facility near Cincinnati. Fisher is competing this weekend in the Meijer Indy 300 Presented by Red Baron and Edy’s at Kentucky Speedway.
